With only Ander Astralaga (20) and Diego Kochen (18) available to back up Inaki Pena, Flick has stated it was essential to bring in a seasoned player to strengthen the team's goalkeeping options.
Reports indicate that Wojciech Szczesny, 34, is poised to join the Catalan giants, with the Polish international set to undergo a medical examination on Thursday.
This move comes just a month after Szczesny announced his retirement from football. According to Mundo Deportivo, discussions were ongoing between Barcelona and Juventus regarding Szczesny's salary as both clubs sought to reach an agreement.
Having been deemed surplus to requirements at Juventus, Szczesny parted ways with the club in August, accepting a 2.5 million euros redundancy package, plus an additional 2 million euros conditional payment if he failed to secure a new team. Previously, he earned 6.5 million euros per season in Turin.
Barcelona are reportedly negotiating to reduce the 2 million euros payment, although even at full value, Szczesny would take a significant pay cut.
If reports are accurate, he could earn approximately 3 million euros per season with bonuses, bringing his potential earnings to around 7.5 million euros if he secures all payments.
