Free agent Kermit Erasmus gets PSL club offer

SABC Sport can reveal that Chippa United have tabled an offer to sign striker Kermit Erasmus on a free transfer.

The 34-year-old has been without a club since leaving Orlando Pirates at the end of last season but then spent the next six months unattached.

Erasmus had been previously linked with Marumo Gallants, Sekhukhune United and Cape Town Spurs in the lower division.

But it is Chippa who have emerged as favourites to secure his services until the end of the season with an option to tie the forward down to an additional 12 months depending on his performance.

Erasmus has been training with the Chili Boys in his hometown of Gqeberha even long before coach Kwanele Kopo surprisingly left the club.

The current January transfer window period will not be a reason to rush the deal because the former SuperSport United striker is a free agent and can join any club outside of the registration period.

Chippa have been heavily relying on Eva Nga upfront and news that Elmo Kabindu is on his way to AmaZulu will likely accelerate the move to get Erasmus on board as soon as possible, although he still does lack match fitness.

The public broadcaster now understands that talks are at an advanced stage for Erasmus and Chippa to agree on terms.
