The club, as revealed by CEO Stan Matthews earlier this week, were in the market to strengthen that department to give Grant Magerman and Siphesihle Ndlovu competition in the 2024/25 season.
Ayer, 24, has never played in the Premier Soccer League before, having started his career at the Right To Dream academy in Ghana prior to moving abroad – where he joined Swedish outfit Varbergs, then moved to Norway before his last stint in Denmark.
The Johannesburg-born midfielder spent several weeks at SuperSport being assessed by coach Gavin Hunt, and joined Matsatsantsa on their pre-season tour in Botswana.
He now becomes the club’s sixth signing following the arrivals of defenders Nyiko Mobbie, Pogiso Sanoka, midfielder Brooklyn Poggenpoel, winger Vincent Pule, and goalkeeper Ricardo Goss, who returned for another two-year loan spell from Mamelodi Sundowns.
The news of his contract agreement, believed to be for two seasons, enables SuperSport to register Ayer just in time to be available for this weekend's MTN8 quarterfinal against Orlando Pirates on Saturday evening.
MTN8 champions Pirates host SuperSport at the Orlando Stadium in the season-opening encounter, which will be broadcast LIVE on SABC Sport.
