Gian Piero Gasperini and Ademola Lookman mend relationship after public dispute

Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini has showered praise on Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman following his stellar performance in their 4-0 demolition of Juventus on Sunday.

Lookman, who was instrumental in the victory with a well-taken goal, was substituted in the 80th minute and shared a warm embrace with Gasperini on the touchline, signalling that any past differences between them have been resolved.

This positive exchange comes after a public fallout in February when Lookman missed a crucial penalty in a Champions League clash against Club Brugge, leading to visible tension between the player and his coach.

However, Gasperini has since acknowledged Lookman's growth and adaptation to Atalanta's tactical demands, commending his development into a more team-oriented player.

"When a group spends 300 days together in a year, disagreements are bound to happen," Gasperini said during his post-match press conference, as quoted by Football Italia.

"Lookman became a fantastic player when he improved his understanding of the team's play. Before, he had a more individual approach."

The reigning African Player of the Year has been in red-hot form this season, notching 13 goals and providing five assists in 22 Serie A appearances for Atalanta.

The Italian tactician went on to emphasize the Nigerian international's vital role in Atalanta's success and even suggested that Lookman could be a future captain for the club.

"Lookman made Atalanta great, and Atalanta made him great. I am convinced he could wear the captain's armband before the season ends," he added.
