Germany national team coach Hansi Flick has heaped praise on Borussia Dortmund's Emre Can and Marius Wolf after they were called up to the Germany squad for the upcoming international break.
This comes after a total of 12 Dortmund players were called up by their respective national teams for the final international break of the 2022/23 season. Three BVB players, including Can and Wolf, have been named in the Germany squad for the first time this season.
Speaking during a press conference on Monday, Flick expressed his excitement about the inclusion of the two Dortmund players and highlighted their importance to the team.
"Both players have a lot to do with Borussia Dortmund's success this season. Marius Wolf is very solid defensively and his readiness to be involved both going forward and at the back is great. He's fun to watch and deserves to be here," said Flick.
"I've known Emre for a long time and he's also made progress, which is great to see. Both have a good mentality, which we need on the pitch."
Can and Wolf have been instrumental to Dortmund's success this season, with the team currently sitting at the top of the Bundesliga standings. Can has played a crucial role in marshalling the defence, while Wolf has cemented his spot as the team's first-choice right-back.
Germany have been searching for a solution to their right-back position for some time, and Wolf's inclusion in the squad could provide an opportunity for him to establish himself as a regular in Flick's plans.
Wolf could make his Germany debut on Saturday as Germany go up against Peru in a friendly match. Flick's side are also due to take on Belgium on Tuesday, just four days before Dortmund's top-of-the-table Bundesliga clash against Bayern Munich.
The inclusion of Can and Wolf in the Germany squad reflects their impressive performances this season, and their call-up to the national team will only serve to boost their confidence and further inspire them to excel for Dortmund in the remaining games of the season.
