Joao Palhinha vows to battle through Bayern Munich struggles

Bayern Munich's Portuguese enforcer Joao Palhinha has endured a bruising debut season in Germany, but the tenacious midfielder has made it clear he's not ready to throw in the towel.

After a protracted transfer saga that saw a January 2024 move collapse, the Bavarians finally secured the 29-year-old from Fulham at the start of the campaign. Yet, life in the Bundesliga has proven a stern test for the defensive dynamo.

Speaking to German outlet Bild, Palhinha opened up about his rocky road with Bayern. "I don't care about rumours! I'm still happy at Bayern," he declared, brushing off speculation of a swift exit. "Of course, I want things to be different. It hasn't been easy for me at times."

Despite the struggles, the Portugal international remains defiant, drawing on past resilience. "This isn't the first time in my career I've faced challenges. I'm here because I've done things very well before. I want to win titles here."

Palhinha pointed to teammate Leon Goretzka as a beacon of inspiration. The German midfielder battled his own doubters this season and emerged stronger. "Yes, he can be a role model," Palhinha said. "We get along well. He deserves it, and we have to praise him for it."

Bayern have stood firm amid whispers of an early parting. Sky Sports debunked claims of an impending split, reporting that the club have made no moves to loan Palhinha out this summer.

The midfielder notched his 20th appearance for Bayern in their thrilling 3-2 victory over St. Pauli on March 30, though he's only been trusted with five Bundesliga starts.

In a post on X following the St. Pauli win, Palhinha wrote, "Tough fights build strong teams. Onward with Bayern!" Manager Vincent Kompany also weighed in, telling reporters after the match, "Joao's a warrior. He's adapting, and we know his quality will shine through."

For Bayern fans, it's a case of watch this space, Palhinha's ready to scrap for his spot.
