Harry Kane on song again as Bayern Munich ease past Bayer Leverkusen to book Champions League last-eight spot

England star Harry Kane scored and made an assist in Bayern Munich's 2-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League last-16 second leg on Tuesday, securing a dominant 5-0 aggregate win.

This result propelled Bayern into the quarter-finals, where they will face Inter Milan.

Kane, who had already scored twice in last week's 3-0 first leg triumph, found the net again in the 52nd minute, finishing from close range to record his 10th Champions League goal. This milestone made him the first English player to score 10 goals in a single European Cup season.

The England striker then turned provider, delivering a perfectly weighted assist with a single touch for Alphonso Davies, who added the second goal in the 71st minute.

"Really good performance," Kane remarked. "From the first minute, we didn't want to be a team that sat back and defended our lead. We wanted to be proactive, apply pressure, and create chances to win the game."

"We did that in the first half and had the better opportunities. Then, in the second half, we knew they had to come out and try something, and we punished them."

In the fifth meeting between the two sides this season, Bayern made a strong start, with Kane involved in two early chances. Leverkusen, trailing 3-0 from the first leg, were forced to push forward but lacked the creativity and pace of the injured Florian Wirtz.

Although they nearly pulled one back through Patrik Schick's header late in the first half, Leverkusen struggled throughout the game.

Bayern kept up the pressure after the break, and Michael Olise's deflected shot narrowly missed the target just three minutes into the second half.

Kane then doubled Bayern's advantage, tapping in a cross from Joshua Kimmich following some sloppy defending by Schick, effectively sealing the tie.

Leverkusen, who have now lost their last three matches in all competitions, lacked bite for most of the match and only registered their first shot on target in the 62nd minute.

It came as little surprise when Bayern added a second goal, with Davies firing in a low shot from a Kane assist nine minutes later.

Bayern, who also lead the Bundesliga with an eight-point gap over second-place Leverkusen, had more opportunities to increase their lead late in the game. Kane missed a chance when he fired wide with only goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky to beat, while Jamal Musiala struck the crossbar in the 81st minute. Musiala also hit the post with another shot five minutes later.

Bayern's next challenge comes against Inter Milan, who are currently leading Serie A. Inter's last Champions League triumph came in 2010, when they defeated Bayern in the final during a treble-winning season, a feat they are now looking to repeat.
