The 32-year-old was a surprise exit at Chloorkop, having first been loaned out to Cape Town City and then finding himself in limbo, before coach Gavin Hunt threw him a lifeline at crosstown rivals Matsatsantsa in August last year.
After 27 appearances, four goals and five assists in all competitions, Lakay believes joining SuperSport was the right decision.
"It didn't end the way I wanted it to end, but that's life, it happens everywhere. I've made peace with it, I've moved on and I'm at SuperSport now," said Lakay.
"We're passed the halfway mark of the season, and I believe, if I didn't make peace with it, I wouldn't have been in the situation I am in now, in terms of the performances, goals and assists, and all that."
By joining a SuperSport side mostly made up of young players, Lakay immediately became a senior figure at the club and argues his contribution so far is evidence thereof.
"I'm enjoying it. I think the last few weeks or month, if I look at my performance – and not that I want to speak about myself [highly], but I think it was four or five games in a row that I contributed," he added.
"I think it was two or three goals and two assists, so it's so far so good, and I'm well on track to achieving my target for the season, which is double figures in goals and assists.
"I think I'm on eight or nine now, and there's about eight games left, including the Nedbank Cup, so hopefully I can achieve that."
