Jamal Musiala set for record-breaking Bayern Munich contract

Jamal Musiala appears poised to make Bayern Munich history by signing the club's most lucrative contract, according to a report from Sport Bild.

The deal, expected to surpass $20 million per year, would secure Musiala's future with the German giants until 2028. If finalised, the five-year agreement could be worth over $100 million in total, eclipsing previous contracts handed to stars like Harry Kane and Robert Lewandowski.

Despite the optimism, negotiations are ongoing, with salary details yet to be resolved. "We are talking very intensively, well, a lot," said Bayern's board member for sport, Max Eberl.

"I'd like to put it (a new contract for Musiala) under everyone's Christmas tree, but I can't promise that today."

Musiala, who joined Bayern from Chelsea in 2019, has emerged as one of the Bundesliga's brightest talents. The 20-year-old has made 181 appearances for Bayern, contributing 53 goals and 35 assists, cementing his reputation as a cornerstone of the team's future.

Meanwhile, Eberl dismissed speculation linking Bayern with Bayer Leverkusen's Florian Wirtz, denying claims that the club had approached Wirtz's father and agent.

"No," Eberl said bluntly when asked about the rumours, adding, "We are currently in contact with the players whose contracts we want to extend." Key figures like Joshua Kimmich and Leroy Sane are also reportedly in talks over new deals.

Neuer's Red Card Sparks Debate

Bayern's recent DFB-Pokal exit against Bayer Leverkusen was overshadowed by Manuel Neuer's first-ever red card.

The veteran goalkeeper was sent off after bringing down Jeremie Frimpong just 17 minutes into the match, leaving Bayern down to 10 men in the eventual 1-0 loss.

Neuer apologised, saying, "I'm sorry⦠Unfortunately, I came too late in the situation. It was extremely difficult for the boys, but they tried everything."

However, former teammate Toni Kroos leapt to Neuer's defence, commenting on Instagram, "Stop apologizing," alongside a goat emoji, signifying "Greatest of All Time."

Messages of support also poured in from Bayern legends Franck Ribery and Giovane Elber, highlighting Neuer's enduring legacy despite the setback.

Bayern Munich now face the challenge of regrouping, with key contract negotiations and performances on the pitch crucial to maintaining their dominance.
