Jorge Messi briefly addressed the media during his visit to Barcelona reportedly to meet with Barca president Joan Laporta regarding Lionel's potential comeback to the club he departed two-years-ago to join Paris Saint-Germain.
While being captured on camera entering the residence of Barcelona president Joan Laporta on Monday morning, Jorge Messi refuted the alleged meeting but conveyed to reporters, "Of course, he [Messi] would love to return to Barcelona. I would like it too. We will see."
This statement follows comments by Barca coach Xavi Hernandez, who expressed his delight at the prospect of the 35-year-old's return.
The primary concern for Barcelona is whether they can accommodate Messi within the stringent wage restrictions imposed on the club by the Spanish Football League (La Liga).
Barca have gained some flexibility with the departures of veterans Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba at the end of this season, but they will likely need to offload players before making any further additions.
It appears that Athletic Club Bilbao's central defender, Inigo Martinez, is poised to be announced as a new signing for the next season.
Barcelona have presented a viability plan to La Liga, which is expected to be approved soon. However, doubts remain regarding their ability to afford Messi, or if recent statements are merely posturing to shift blame if the FIFA World Cup winner does not return.
