Jose Riveiro coy over Orlando Pirates quadruple chances

Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro has put up a modest defence in response to the possibility of achieving a quadruple in his third and potentially final season with the club.

Pirates, who bagged back-to-back cup doubles in the Spaniards first two seasons since arriving in South Africa in 2022, have already won the MTN8 this season and remain in the running for the CAF Champions League, Betway Premiership and Nedbank Cup crowns.

Though refusing to discuss their chances of a historic quadruple, Riveiro highlighted the club’s ambition is to compete on every front and try to win every competition.

"It's very important for us to give our best in every competition where we participate and particularly as a group, we have an ambition since day one to play every final, to play every last game of the competition with the possibility to be number one in every competition where we participate,” Riveiro said.

“We are realistic, we know the difficulty of being there in the last game of every competition but so far I think in those kind of scenarios we did a good job as a team, as a club."

In the Nedbank Cup, the Buccaneers come up against SuperSport United, whom they have already beaten in the MTN 8 and Betway Premiership, but Riveiro remains cautious of over confidence heading into Saturday’s game.

"I think if I'm not wrong, we are still in the quarterfinals so to start talking about the final or the trophy or renovate the championship one more time. It's still too early so we know how difficult it's going to be on Saturday and again, we're gonna try to be at the level that, that kind of game will ask for," the coach added.
