Pirates beat SuperSport 5-4 on penalties after the game ended 2-all after extra time to march on to the semifinals of the Nedbank Cup.
Bucs are attempting to defend their title and win it for the record third time and Riveiro says Chaine is proving to be a penalty specialist.
"It's his role in the penalty shootout; he has to stay there between the post and try to catch at least one more than the opponent. He's been doing well in that particular scenario in the recent occasions where we have to go to the penalties and today again, he did an excellent job together with the analysis department, with the goalkeeper coach, with everybody in that space helping him to do the right decisions,” Riveiro said.
South African U20 international Mbekezeli Mbokazi opened the scoreline with his first goal for Pirates in topflight football, but United equalised through Terrence Dzuvukamanja.
Bucs restored the lead before halftime via Evidence Makgopa, but it was substitute Gape Moralo’s late strike in added time that sent the game to extra-time.
Riveiro, who always shuns talking about individual players, was not prepared to discuss Mbokazi’s goal further.
"It's one of the possibilities in the knockout game, there's only two possible results in these types of games. So, if you can't make it in the 120 minutes, you have to go to the penalties and do a good job in that setup and that space,” the coach added.
“Again happy to be in the semifinals. I don't like speaking about player by player, just to let you know. Our first goal, was a second action in the setpiece. Mbokazi put it in the back of the net. It was a beautiful goal."
