Jose Riveiro non-committal on Monnapule Saleng’s availability for Stade d’Abidjan

Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro is keeping his cards close to his chest regarding the availability of Bafana Bafana winger and fan favourite Monnapule Saleng for today’s CAF Champions League clash against Stade d’Abidjan.

There was a lot of excitement from the Ghost when they saw pictures and visuals of Saleng training with the club yesterday.

He last played for Pirates when they hosted Al Ahly at the beginning of last month and hasn’t made the match-day squad since then.

Regarding Saleng’s availability for the game against the Ivorians, Riveiro was technical in his response.

“Obviously, I’m not gonna tell you 24 hours before the match who’s available and who’s not. First, because we still have a training session. Once we finish the training, we will know who is available and who is not,” Riveiro said.

“I think you’ll probably understand that I’m not going to say anything about who’s going to be in the 20 or the starting XI. Or who is not gonna be [in] tomorrow, because those are small things that also play in the game.

“Our opponent would like to know who’s going to play. Our opponents are not going to have access to that information, so I’m not going to tell you who is in or who is out. I’m sure that you can understand.”

Saleng has only been part of three Betway Premiership matches for Pirates this season, with his last game having been on the fifth of November against Richards Bay FC, coming on as a sub for only 16 minutes.
