Jose Riveiro praises collective effort as Bucs go six points clear in the Betway Premiership

Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro says it’s a luxury to have a team with abundant talent, with players like Relebohile Mofokeng proving influential for the Bucs at such a young age.

Riveiro was speaking after seeing his side coasting to their sixth win in the Betway Premiership in as many matches, beating a 10-man TS Galaxy 2-0 at the Mbombela Stadium last night.

Goals from Thalente Mbatha and Mofokeng ensured that Pirates went six points clear of second-placed Mamelodi Sundowns, who have a game in hand.

Riveiro says Mofokeng plays an effective role in the collective.

"He's contributing a lot to the collective like many of our players. We have talent in every line, in every position, it's nice to see us playing together and interacting together, it's a luxury for me as a coach to have this kind of arsenal, this amount of quality in the squad.,” Riveiro said.

“You look at the names tonight, probably we are missing some of our regular players as well but the ones who are coming to the field they are getting accountability, they want to show that they are here for the team, for the club."

Riveiro is having his best start in the league since arriving in South Africa three years ago.

He is pleased with his team's response as they continue to search for their first league title in 12 years.

"We are really committed to the objective that we are looking for and like I said we came here with the intention to go back with the three points, that's the most important thing in this current marathon of fixtures and games and trainings and everything, so far so good."

Pirates lost their last away game at Mbombela last season to Galaxy 1-0, and Riveiro was pleased to see his players take a disciplined approach and keep a clean sheet against a stubborn opponent.

"A game we expected every time we come here to Mpumalanga and we face Galaxy, it's always a very tough one. It's an extremely difficult team to play against, they push you to play in a really high tempo during the 90 minutes and the moment that you want to slow down the game and control the game, they don't allow you to do it and you have to keep going,” the coach explained.

“We did a fantastic job today in terms of work ethic and consistency, we didn't concede those chances even though there were moments where Galaxy managed to dominate us.

“A massive three points for us, we came here with the mentality to collect these three points knowing that it's gonna be difficult. We lost here 1-0 just a few months ago but this time for us I think it's a well-deserved three points after a good performance."
