Kaizer Chiefs approach Richards Bay for Lwandile Mabuya

The Glamour Boys see the 24-year-old as a possible long-term replacement for Reeve Frosler, who is in the final six months of his contract.

Amakhosi are yet to speak to Frosler about extending his stay although the utility defender is currently a regular under coach Nasreddine Nabi.

Mabuya is also one of the first names on the Richards Bay team sheet having started and finished 15 of the 16 games in all competitions for the club under coaches Brandon Truter, who got sacked, and his replacement Ronnie Gabriel – so he is not likely to come cheap.

Chiefs’ interest in Mabuya poses a question over the future of Dillan Solomons, who has not only battled injuries but struggled to break his way into the team following his recovery with only three appearances so far.

It’s believed Richards Bay could be swayed into selling if the offer meets their valuation of the player and the deal is concluded in time to allow them to find a replacement this month.

Chiefs have concluded their first signing of the January transfer window by securing striker Tashreeq Morris from SuperSport United, with Christian Saile expected to go in the opposite direction.

The Soweto giants sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jnr confirmed they were working tirelessly behind the scenes to make use of the current registration window to beef up Nabi’s team.
