Chiefs in talks with Magesi over Mthethwa, Stellies sign ‘Kaka’

Kaizer Chiefs and Magesi FC are in discussions over a possible loan deal for midfielder Sibongiseni ‘Ox’ Mthethwa before the transfer window closes on Friday night, SABC Sport has been informed.

Another deal close to being concluded is that of midfielder Khomotjo ‘Kaka’ Lekoloane from Baroka to Stellenbosch, with the player excused from training earlier today – paving the way for his transfer to the Betway Premiership.

Chiefs are understood to have informed Mthethwa he is surplus to requirements under new coach Nasreddine Nabi and have been offering him to several clubs in the Premier Soccer League.

Mthethwa joined Amakhosi from Stellies a year ago with much fanfare as the Soweto giants triggered his release clause to beef up then coach Molefi Ntseki’s squad, but with the club struggling…so did the player.

Nabi has injected that department with more youthful players and appears to prefer Samkelo Zwane as well as Yusuf Maart and the fact that Njabulo Blom has returned from the Major League Soccer in the USA will limit Mthethwa’s game time.

He managed 30 games in his debut campaign, but is unlikely to get anywhere near those numbers if he sticks around under Nabi.

Meanwhile, Stellenbosch have scooped up Khomotjo from Baroka to strengthen a team that’s likely to play in the CAF Confederation Cup group stages this season having beaten AS Vita Club in the first leg of their play-offs.

The transfer window is finally slamming shut tomorrow and the public broadcaster understands these could be some of the big moves:

  • Oswin Appollis is still likely to leave Polokwane City with Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns interested.
  • Cape Town Spurs and Chiefs remain in talks over Asanele Velebayi.
  • Sundowns have also not given up on Jayden Adams joining them from Stellies before the deadline.
