The former Orlando Pirates striker, who founded Amakhosi 53 years ago, believes the honour could serve as inspiration for his team to record a sixth consecutive victory over their arch-rivals Orlando Pirates at FNB Stadium this afternoon.
"Something like this, obviously, is an inspiration to those who are there now, especially when they come to realise the history we come from and what those who were there before them achieved," reflected Motaung.
"So, to them, it should act as an inspiration to say, 'Okay, here we are today, we never dreamt of playing for this club, but we are here now, so let's play our part.' For me, it acts more like an inspiration."
The 79-year-old also reminded the multitudes of Chiefs fans what the Derby means to the nation at large, with the message filtering through to the players when they exit the tunnel to the roaring sounds of close to 90 000 spectators at FNB Stadium.
"Ahead of the Derby, obviously, they know the spirit of the Derby is that we all lock horns against our rivals to make sure that we win the day, because that's how our culture was created around the Derby," the chairman noted.
"Because of the way the team started and how the Derby itself became a reality, this is not just an ordinary game.
"A lot of people put their lives on this game, a lot of people spend money – the little bit they have, even though some are not employed – just to say, 'I want to go to the Derby.'"
