Kaoru Mitoma injury concerns after Brighton's FA Cup victory

Kaoru Mitoma's injury cast a shadow over Brighton's 2-1 victory over Newcastle United in the FA Cup, as the winger was forced to hobble off in the 90th minute with a suspected knee injury.

The 27-year-old, who has been in excellent form with five goals and one assist in his last ten matches, was replaced by Solly March as Brighton secured their place in the quarter-finals.

Mitoma, who is joint top scorer for Brighton this season with eight goals in all competitions, will be closely assessed by the club's medical team in the coming days.

His availability for Saturday's Premier League clash against Fulham at the Amex Stadium is now in doubt, adding to the club's growing injury concerns.

"We have to wait for the scan and then I can say more about that," said Brighton's head coach Fabian Hurzeler.

"But hopefully it's not that bad. Let's wait."

Brighton had already turned down a substantial bid from Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr for Mitoma in January, highlighting his importance to the team.

With the FA Cup quarter-finals now in sight, Brighton will face either Nottingham Forest or Ipswich Town, with Forest the favourites to advance.

If Brighton are drawn against Forest, it could provide an opportunity for revenge following their heavy 7-0 defeat in the Premier League back in January.
