The news of the 25-year-old defenders move was confirmed by both clubs on Monday morning.
"Keven approached us with a desire for change with the possibility of more playing time. We can understand that, especially after his contract extension in the summer," Freiburg sporting director Klemens Hartenbach said in a statement.
"With the loan to Bochum, we have found a good solution for both sides, which will allow Keven to collect as many playing minutes as possible in the remaining 19 Bundesliga games."
Bochum sporting director Patrick Fabian said in his own statement: "With Keven Schlotterbeck, we strengthen our squad and expand our options in defence.
"Keven knows what lies ahead for him and us and is ready to support us in the fight to remain in the league," Fabian added.
