Kylian Mbappe bags brace to secure victory for Real Madrid

Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe scored both goals as Real Madrid secured a narrow 2-1 win over Villarreal in LaLiga on Saturday.

The goal takes the Frenchman's tally to an incredible 31 in his debut season, which helps him eclipse Ronaldo for debut season goals and puts him on course to beat the record of 37 set by Ivan Zamorano in the 1992/93 season.

Los Blancos struggled to get going in the game because it had been less than 67 hours since they played a 120-minute Champions League match against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday and Mbappe admits the squad was tired.

"From the warm-up it was already difficult, we were very tired," he said. "But we had to respect the badge, fight until the end and give everything we had."

Juan Foyth opened the scoring in the seventh minute for Villareal before Mbappe netter in the 17th and 23rd minutes to secure the points for Real.

Elsewhere in LaLiga on Saturday, Diego Lopez' 58th-minute strike was cancelled out by Cristhian Stuani's 64th-minute effort as Girona drew 1-1 with Valencia and Marcos Alonso's 83rd-minute penalty was enough to secure a 1-0 win for Celta Vigo over Valladolid.

Las Palmas and Alaves played out to an exciting 2-2 draw with Toni Martinez (7'), Jon Guridi (63'), Fabio Silba (90' P) and Alberto Moleiro all getting on the scoresheet and Mallorca beat Espanyol 2-1 courtesy of goals from Takuma Asano (65') and Vedat Muriqi while Espanyol's strike came through a Muriqi own goal in the 53rd minute.
