Lamine Yamal reckons Barcelona are favourites for Champions League glory

Barcelona are in prime position to end their 10-year wait for a Champions League title, with young star Lamine Yamal confident they can go all the way.

The Catalan giants have been one of the best teams in Europe this season, averaging just over three goals per game across all competitions, scoring 132 times in 43 matches.

Under new manager Hansi Flick, Barcelona have been dominant domestically and in Europe. They currently sit atop La Liga, level on points with Real Madrid but with a game in hand.

In the Champions League, they finished second in their group behind Liverpool before dispatching Benfica comfortably in the round of 16.

Their only loss in the competition came against Monaco (2-1), but that hasn't dented their confidence.

Yamal believes that with Liverpool, the pre-knockout favourites, eliminated by Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona are now the team to beat.

"We are the favourites for the Champions League," Lamine asserted confidently in an interview with SPORT.

"When the group stage ended, I said that Liverpool were the favourites because they were first [in the group stage], and now that they have been eliminated, it's us."

Up next, they face Borussia Dortmund in the quarter-finals, a tie they will be expected to win given their firepower.

Flick's men will hope to continue their strong form and push towards the final, aiming to secure their first Champions League title since 2015.
