Mothiba, the 27-year-old striker, traced his footballing journey from his early days at Sundowns' development program. His talent blossomed further when he joined the prestigious Diambars Academy, ultimately catapulting him to France at the tender age of 18.
Upon landing in France, Mothiba found his first European home with LOSC Lille. His promising performances for the reserve squad, including eight goals in 32 games, didn't go unnoticed. A breakthrough loan spell with Valenciennes in Ligue 2 paved the way for his inclusion in Lille's first-team roster.
Amid financial turmoil, Strasbourg secured Mothiba's services in a ¬4 million transfer. His debut season in Strasbourg colours featured 12 goals, which earned him a call-up to the Bafana Bafana squad.
However, injuries dealt a setback to both his club and international progress, side-lining him for the past four seasons. Now, as he regains full form and fitness, Mothiba admitted that returning home was never in his immediate plans.
"At the moment, my focus is solely on Europe. I've never considered a return to South Africa for playing," Mothiba emphasized during a Bafana Bafana press conference. "But in life, anything can happen. You never know."
When quizzed about his dream club if he ever graced South African pitches again, Mothiba didn't hesitate to reveal his deep-rooted connection to Mamelodi Sundowns.
"Sundowns has been my team since my youth, even before I left for Diambars Academy. My heart belongs to Sundowns," he affirmed.
"I've followed them passionately, and they'll always have a special place in my heart."
