Lehlohonolo Seema desperate to stay with Betway Prem front runners

Sekhukhune United coach Lehlohonolo Seema says they are not giving up on their quest to keep up with Betway Premiership log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns and the chasing pack.

Babina Noko, following an impressive 4-2 win over AmaZulu, moved back to fourth place on Wednesday, and are 17 points behind reigning champions Sundowns.

Seema knows his charges have their work cut out, but insists they want to stay within range of the chasing pack, led by second-placed Orlando Pirates – just five points ahead.

"We must start collecting because now, eish, I think it's been what – four games that we've been stuck in one position, so sometimes God gives your a second and third chance, and I think we were given a fourth chance," said Seema.

"So I'm not sure about others' result, but as long as we can win our games, especially at home, we are happy."

Part of Sekhukhune’s resurgence against AmaZulu was led by captain Linda Mtambo, who scored twice to help seal the win, and Seema hailed the leadership of the former Orlando Pirates midfielder.

"Not a super sub, he's a captain that is always ready to lead the team, whether it's from the bench, from home, or from the starting line-up, I'll just say he's a complete player," he said.

"We don't have super subs, you can see the positivity and energy that he has, it rubs off on the team, and he's helping the team – if there are problems, he comes in, and he's always solving them and helping the club.

"So, I don't want to call him a super sub because the day he starts, you're going to say, 'Now where is your super sub?' So I'm just saying he's a true leader that leads whenever he's given a chance, whether he starts from the bench or not, his charisma is what the team needs."

Following the spate of inconsistent results in recent weeks, media speculation linked former Cape Town City mentor Eric Tinkler with Seema's job, but the coach responded in surprise.

"There was a report linking me? I didn't see it. I don't know anything about it," he concluded.
