The 27-year-old is understood to have grown frustrated at being overlooked by the technical team this season, after just five appearances all from the bench.
Kapinga joined Sundowns from Black Leopards in July 2020, but struggled to become a regular in the team, despite impressing whenever he has come on.
According to sources, the player has asked the club to be released, although his contract still has two more years remaining.
SABC Sport has been told Sundowns are ready to entertain offers for the midfielder, who scored seven goals for Leopards in over 50 matches, before moving to Chloorkop where he believed his career would blossom.
It’s not the first time Kapinga is being linked with a move away from Sundowns – the speculation has been ongoing since his maiden year at the club, but nothing ever materialised.
With the Premier Soccer League transfer window closing at midnight, it will be a difficult deal to pull off given the time constraints, especially if Sundowns are asking for a fee and do not terminate Kapinga’s contract.
He has found it difficult to feature with the club signing players like Marcelo Allende, Sipho Mbule, Teboho Mokoena and Bongani Zungu to add to what was already an impressive group of midfielders at the club.
