Lucas Vazquez signs one-year extension with Real Madrid

Real Madrid confirmed on Thursday morning that Lucas Vazquez's contract had been renewed for another season.

Vazquez, a home-grown talent, has adapted to various roles over the years, even shifting from winger to full-back when needed. His versatility and dedication have earned him another year with the club, extending his stay until June 2025.

Vazquez's extension came after Real Madrid's successful Champions League campaign under Carlo Ancelotti. The renewal followed a series of contract extensions, starting with veteran Luka Modric.

While Vazquez, 33, chose to remain with Real Madrid, his teammate Nacho Fernandez has decided to move to Saudi Arabia. Nacho's departure was motivated by a desire for a more prominent role and a lucrative salary that would ensure financial security for his retirement.

Vazquez's journey with Real Madrid has been one of loyalty and perseverance. He has only left the Santiago Bernabeu once, spending the 2014-15 La Liga season on loan at Espanyol. Upon his return, Vazquez faced fierce competition for playing time due to the high calibre of players at Madrid. Despite this, his commitment to the club never wavered.

Throughout his career, Vazquez made significant contributions to Los Blancos. As per his latest extension, he has played 349 games for the team, scoring 36 goals. His international career with Spain includes nine appearances, further showcasing his talent on a broader stage.

Madrid's official announcement highlighted Vazquez's achievements and the importance of his continued presence in the squad.

The statement read, "Real Madrid CF and Lucas Vazquez have agreed to extend the contract of our player, who remains linked to the club until 30th June 2025.

"Lucas Vazquez has played 349 games for our team, in which he has scored 36 goals, and is an international with Spain, for whom he has played nine games."

This season, Vazquez will share the pitch with some of the brightest stars in football, including the newly signed Kylian Mbappe and rising talent Endrick. His experience and versatility will be valuable assets as Real Madrid aim to build on their recent successes and continue competing at the highest level.

The decision to extend Vazquez's contract reflects the club's confidence in his abilities and his importance to the squad's overall dynamics.
