SABC Sport on Tuesday reported a deal had been agreed between the two clubs for Sam to spend the rest of the 2024/25 season on loan at the topflight rookies.
However, word reaching the public broadcaster's desk is that Dikwena Tsa Meetse pulled the plug on the move at the last minute on Tuesday evening.
It is understood that Magesi were keen on landing the former Orlando Pirates and Moroka Swallows full-back for the next few months, with the player even having completed a medical in Johannesburg prior to his trip to Limpopo.
The reigning Carling Knockout champions instead notified Amakhosi that they no longer have room for Sam, after they were unable to offload a few players of their own before the transfer deadline, while having to also pay a portion of his salary.
With the PSL transfer window having now shut, the 27-year-old is left with no option but to stay in Naturena – at least until the end of the current season, and continue to try and fight for a spot in Nasreddine Nabi's side.
He has yet to feature for the Soweto side this season, having suffered a long-term injury during the club's pre-season camp in Turkey, and finds himself behind the likes of Bradley Cross and Happy Mashiane in the left-back pecking order.
