SABC Sport reported on Sunday the former Orlando Pirates and Maritzburg United forward was set to leave Chloorkop before the transfer window closes on 22 September, with AmaZulu and Cape Town City two clubs that are keen to add Kutumela to their squad.
Ahead of tomorrow’s DStv Premiership clash against Kaizer Chiefs at the Lucas Moripe Stadium, the player was spotted training with the first team and this prompted questions from the media regarding his future.
“I have to be careful how I answer this and not mislead the press or our supporters, who deserve to know. I speak on behalf of the club,” was Mokwena’s opening line in addressing the matter.
Kutumela joined Sundowns from the Team of Choice in 2021 following a stellar season as their top goal scorer.
But it’s been difficult for him to get game time, which has subsequently also led to Kutumela being out of sight for Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos.
“So, transfers are very delicate in the sense that it has to be the player, it has to be the club and the interested party. With Kutumela there is interest, but we have to wait because it has to make sense for the tripartite,” Mokwena added.
“The player has to be happy; the mother club has to be happy and of course, it has to make sense for the interested party. You have to be patient in that regard with any of the players that are still here.”
What could work in City’s favour is that the 30-year-old Kutumela has previously worked alongside coach Eric Tinkler at Pirates and also at Maritzburg.
