Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies want to wrap the 2024 league season in style

Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies coach Jerry Tshabalala says while they need only a point to retain their league title, they will go for maximum points to wrap up the league in style.

The Brazilians face neighbours TUT Matsatsantsa Ladies on Saturday at the Lucas Moripe Stadium.

Victory will see Banyana ba Style lifting the trophy for a record fifth time in a row. Tshabalala adds that securing the title will also help them shift focus to the CAF Women’s Champions League starting next weekend in Morocco.

"We are playing a very important game of the season, basically we don't just need a point, we definitely need three points just to wrap it. I think it's gonna be a very, very huge game, a big game. When you recall TUT is one of the team's that managed to steal two points away from us,” Tshabalala said.

“The good thing is we are playing at home, as much as we don't have the entire squad to prepare with but we do have depth in our team. Whoever is available will play and see to it that we get three points out of this difficult game against TUT. I also think it's one of the games that will help us to shift our focus to CAF after winning this game."

Sundowns Ladies are on a very tight schedule with league commitments, national team matches as well as CAF Women’s Champions League assignments.

Recently they had eight players in the Banyana Banyana squad travelling to Europe. Tshabalala states that they just have to manage their own schedule.

"It is what it is, it's a tight schedule and we can't be mourning about it and complaining about it. The good thing about the team is the fact that we've got depth and it's about time those players who are not given enough opportunity during the season to raise their hands and say 'I wanna be the one who takes the team to North Africa, I wanna be amongst the 21 players who are going to North Africa,” he added.

“It helps us for competition in terms of the players in the team, in terms of raising their hands. Us as a technical team as well, it's a bit of a homework to say, we need to select a balanced squad."
