Mamelodi Sundowns offer Lebo Maboe to Sekhukhune United

SABC Sport has established that Mamelodi Sundowns have approached Sekhukhune United over possibly signing midfielder Lebohang Maboe.

The 30-year-old has not seen regular game-time at Chloorkop this season, but hasn’t been completely iced out by the technical team.

A potential move to their Betway Premiership rivals could very well be an attempt by The Brazilians to secure the player consistent minutes in a team not short of quality midfielders themselves.

Maboe joined Sundowns from Maritzburg United in August 2018, under then coach Pitso Mosimane, on the back of an impeccable season in which he finished as the Team of Choice's top goal scorer.

But, over the years at the Tshwane outfit, Maboe has been used more as a holding midfielder, where he has found competition to be very stiff.

Added to that, Maboe has battled with long-term injuries, and it’s understood his mature character is part of the reason Sundowns have been reluctant to release him into the free agent market.

The public broadcaster understands Babina Noko are keen to add Maboe to their roster, as he will not only bring experience but also add depth to coach Lehlohonolo Seema’s side, ultimately helping them in their quest to secure a CAF inter-club spot this season.

Maboe has only managed 10 matches across all competitions that Sundowns have been involved in this season, with the majority of those coming off the bench.
