Mamelodi Sundowns star Boitumelo Rabale eyes overseas move

Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies midfielder Boitumelo Rabale harbours a fervent desire to secure a transfer to Europe following yet another stand-out season with the CAF Women's Champions League champions.

Having exhibited her exceptional skills in the Hollywoodbets Super League, where she clinched the Player of the Year award for a second successive season, as well as The Brazilians' triumphant continental campaign, Rabale feels all that's left for her to now achieve is realising her dream of a move abroad.

At 27, she acknowledges the ticking clock and eagerly wishes to fulfill her overseas ambition sooner rather than later.

"It’s every player’s dream to play abroad, and I am no different. I would like to see myself getting out of my comfort zone and challenge myself against some of the best players in the world," she recently told SABC Sport.

"It’s my wish to move to Europe to showcase my talent there. Scoring a move to Europe would be a dream come true for me and my country [Lesotho]."

In the previous season, Sundowns secured an extraordinary third consecutive league title, after conquering the COSAFA region and the wider continent through the Women's Champions League, and Rabale, who doubles as a striker, anticipates building on this success in the coming 2024 season.

"We are keen to maintain our titles, starting with the league, progressing to COSAFA [regional CAFWCL qualifiers], and the CAF Champions League," she added.

"As for me, the plan is to defend my Player of the Year accolade and prove that winning it was not a fluke. I aim to double my efforts and elevate my game to another level.

"Additionally, I aspire to compete for the top goal scorer award – winning the Golden Boot is a key objective for the new season."

Sundowns have participated in all three Champions League finals since its inception in 2021, securing victory twice and finishing as the runner-up in 2022.

Rabale told the national broadcaster that the competition on the continent is challenging, but she maintains optimism that the team can successfully defend their crown for a first time this year.

"We dominate the continent because we have discipline, and winning is a culture at the club, but it’s never easy. It’s always tough on the continent, and we are looking forward to another battle," she concluded.
