Man Utd boss Erik Ten Hag senses it may be a breakthrough season for Amad Diallo

Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag is optimistic that it could be a breakthrough season for Ivory Coast international Amad Diallo.

The 22-year-old winger found the net as United secured a 2-0 victory over Rangers in a friendly match held in Edinburgh on Saturday.

Despite making just nine Premier League appearances and scoring once in the 2023/24 campaign, Ten Hag believes Diallo is ready to stake his claim for a regular starting berth.

"We have to view Amad differently now. Yes, he's still young, but he's no longer inexperienced," Ten Hag told reporters post-match.

"Last season was tough for him due to injuries. Before that, he had a fantastic season in the Championship.

"At the end of last season, he performed well with our first team, playing some excellent matches. This season has to be his year," the Dutchman continued.

"It's great to see him start like this. On Monday, he couldn't play due to travel restrictions in Norway, but today he played, and he played very well."

Diallo and Manchester United will soon head to the USA, where they will face Premier League rivals Arsenal and Liverpool, as well as Spanish side Real Betis.
