Manchester United coach disappointed with Andre Onana after costly mistake

Manchester United coach Ruben Amorim expressed his disappointment following goalkeeper Andre Onana’s error in the team's 3-1 loss to Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday.

Amorim likened Onana's performance to the inconsistent season United has been enduring, marked by highs and lows.

The Cameroonian international mishandled a low cross from Brighton's Yasin Ayari while the Red Devils were trailing 2-1. Onana spilled the ball at the feet of Georginio Rutter, who capitalized on the mistake to score the Seagulls' third goal at Old Trafford.

"It's like the team, ups and downs. Really up, sometimes, and really low downs. We have to maintain the focus during all the game to try to win. That is the only way we can turn things around," Amorim told the media.

This is not the first instance of Onana committing an error in crucial moments for United. In a match against Wolves last month, Matheus Cunha scored directly from a corner after Onana failed to position himself effectively amidst a crowd of opposition players.

Meanwhile, the defeat against Brighton marked Manchester United's 10th loss of the 2024/25 Premier League season. The Red Devils currently sit in 13th place on the league table with 26 points from 22 matches, a stark reflection of their struggles throughout the campaign.

Amorim and his team face growing pressure to stabilise performances as they attempt to salvage their season and climb the league standings.
