Manqoba Mngqithi welcomes Kaizer Chiefs purple patch

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Manqoba Mngqithi says the early form enjoyed by Kaizer Chiefs ahead of their Betway Premiership clash on Saturday suggests the fixture will not be one-sided.

The two teams are currently enjoying winning streaks, having collected maximum points in their opening two league matches this season.

Mngqithi shared what he expects when he faces new Amakhosi coach Nasreddine Nabi for the first time at FNB Stadium.

"This match is always in our first five matches [of the season], and I think that has become a little bit obvious – I think I've seen us playing it as a third match, probably, two or three times in the last five seasons," said Mngqithi.

"But it's nice to play games with teams that are motivated and also see an opportunity that they can beat you, it makes the game very interesting for the spectators, and it makes the game a little open and interesting for both teams."

The Sundowns mentor rebuffed the notion that Chiefs have become a physical team under their new coach.

"One thing I can guarantee is that both teams are physically prepared for this match; both teams are playing a brand of football that requires the physical preparation as one of the fundamental factors of performance," he said sarcastically.

"I did not see the physicality that we are perhaps talking about, I think they are a very decent team that plays good football, like us, and the physicality always comes with the robustness and all that.

"To be honest, I don't think they are a team that relies a lot of physicality, I think they are a team that relies a lot on transitions this time around, and some good players."
