Currently on loan at Aston Villa, Rashford has enjoyed a productive spell since his arrival at Villa Park in February, netting his fourth goal in Tuesday's narrow 2-1 defeat to Manchester City. In addition to his goal tally, he has contributed six assists, reinforcing his value as a versatile attacking asset.
Despite being under contract at Old Trafford until 2028, those close to Rashford suggest a return to United is improbable. The 27-year-old was frozen out of the first team by Amorim in December and has not featured in a matchday squad since, aside from being an unused substitute in a home defeat to Newcastle on 30 December. Speaking at the time of Rashford's departure, Amorim remarked, "I couldn't get Marcus to see the way you're supposed to play football and to train the way I see it."
United face a significant decision this summer regarding the forward's future - whether to sanction another loan move or seek a permanent transfer. The club, alongside Amorim, is looking to restructure the squad both tactically and financially to align with the Portuguese manager's philosophy, and clarity over the status of one of their highest earners would be advantageous.
However, a swift resolution is unlikely. Rashford has indicated he will not make any decisions before mid-June and remains selective regarding potential destinations. He has ruled out a move to London and is reportedly only interested in clubs with UEFA Champions League qualification. Additionally, he has no interest in being included in a potential swap deal, amid speculation linking United with Crystal Palace forward Eberechi Eze.
While Rashford's form at Villa may not be considered prolific - four goals in 17 appearances - his all-around contribution has been notable. His performances have earned him a recall to the England squad and have even kept Villa's leading striker Ollie Watkins on the bench in recent weeks.
With Villa competing in an FA Cup semi-final against Crystal Palace and still pushing for a Champions League place, Rashford's immediate future remains focused on contributing to Emery's side. Speaking after the defeat to City, Villa manager Unai Emery praised the forward's progress: "He is performing very well. His adaptation has been quick, and his commitment to the process is really important for us and for him."
Although few clubs may be in a financial position to match Rashford's current wages, United previously subsidized his salary to facilitate the loan to Villa, suggesting similar arrangements could be explored again. As the summer transfer window approaches, Rashford is expected to draw considerable interest - though his final decision, for now, remains on hold.
