Siyabulela Shai scored the only goal of the game at the Dr. Petrus Molemela Stadium with a pinpoint header after 17 minutes.
It was a perfect start for the hosts as Shai rose well to meet a superb Daniel Msendami cross from the right-hand side.
Washington Arubi then denied Sanele Barns from restoring parity with a header on goal.
There were little in the way of clear-cut chances for either side until Msendami curled in a free-kick at the start of the second period that Sage Stephens did well to keep out.
Stellies refused to give up without a fight and came close to an equaliser with another headed effort, this time from Ashley Cupido from that ultimately flew over the target.
Devon Titus thought he had scored with a half-volley from outside the area with the game winding down, but Arubi was equal to the effort.
Thapelo Dhludlu then wasted a late chance to put the tie to bed with a one-on-one situation where he came off second best to Stephens.
The result saw Gallants progress to the semi-finals of the competition where they will face off against one of Richards Bay, Mamelodi Sundowns or Magesi.
