The Eswatini outfit takes on Ferroviario Beira of Mozambique in a two-legged preliminary round. Ngwenya says the TS Galaxy encounter came at the right time.
"It was very important for us and we appreciate the invite from Galaxy to come and play here because we are preparing for a Champions League preliminary round with a team from Mozambique. It gave us an idea of our team, what is it that we need to go and work on," Ngwenya said.
The match, held at the Mbombela Stadium, was part of the inaugural Mpumalanga Premier’s International Cup, which features two other clubs, Germany’s FC Augsburg and Yanga FC of Tanzania.
Swallow’s best showing in the Champions League was a group-stage finish in 2018.
Ngwenya says the clash was a good test, and provided answers to the questions they had.
"It was a good game for us, I think we have learnt a lot. We are in our second week of preseason. It showed us exactly where we need to go, what we need to go back and do. We are a bit behind conditionally, it was a good test for my boys and a very good planning, most of them are young. I think they've learnt a lot from this game," he added.
Following the match, Mbabane Swallows are looking into the possibility of establishing long and lasting relations with the teams participating in the Mpumalanga Premier’s International Cup for the benefit of the players.
"A very good experience for us and good relations that we want to establish with our teams in SA especially Mpumalanga because we are very close. We really appreciate it."
In another clash of the Mpumalanga Premier’s International Cup, FC Augsburg defeated Yanga FC 2-1.
The Germans conclude their South African tour with a match against hosts TS Galaxy next weekend, Sunday, 27 July 2024.
