Miguel Cardoso not looking back at Orlando Pirates in title chase

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso says they are running their own race with the business end of the Betway Premiership fast approaching.

The Portuguese mentor was responding to a question on whether Downs were desperate to take advantage over their nearest rivals Orlando Pirates, who are still needing to play catch up.

Sundowns could stretch their lead to 15 points if they beat Sekhukhune United on Wednesday night, and Pirates would then have four games in hand, but Cardoso insists their concern is solely on themselves.

"I haven't even looked at the schedule of Pirates, I don't know. Obviously I know they have some games in hand, so they obviously have to play them at some point, but I don't know – if we can win ours until then, eventually it can be an advantage," said Cardoso.

"But if we also lose points, it will not be an advantage, so let's wait and see; let's try to keep our advantage – we gained it after we beat them, but two days later we lost three points away to Galaxy.

"So we need to focus on our job, we need to continue to win games so that we can obviously, in the end, have an amount of points that allow us to win [the title], but there's a lot of games [still to play]."
