Missed chances see Kaizer Chiefs and Cape Town City play to a goalless draw

Kaizer Chiefs and Cape Town City were left frustrated as missed opportunities saw them settle for a goalless draw in their Betway Premiership clash at FNB Stadium on Wednesday night.

Both teams created plenty of chances, but poor finishing - particularly from Chiefs - proved costly. Goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma played a crucial role in ensuring Amakhosi kept a clean sheet with some key saves.

The result is a setback for Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi, who is pushing to secure a CAF club competition spot for next season. After 21 games, Chiefs sit eighth on the log with 29 points, while Cape Town City remain in 10th place with 23 points from 22 matches.

The visitors started the game with intent and nearly took the lead inside the opening 10 minutes. Nathan Fasika's close-range header seemed destined for goal, but Bvuma made a vital stop to keep the score level. Cape Town City's Darwin Gonzalez was another attacking threat, but he squandered his best chance in the 19th minute, sending his effort wide.

Chiefs slowly grew into the game, with Mduduzi Shabalala setting up Nkosingiphile Ngcobo in the 28th minute, only for the midfielder to fire over the bar. Dillan Solomons also failed to capitalize on a promising attack after being played through by Gaston Sirino.

The best chance of the first half fell to Shabalala, who found himself one-on-one with the goalkeeper following a defensive error by City. However, his shot went agonizingly wide, leaving Chiefs to rue another missed opportunity.

Chiefs came out with purpose after the break and nearly broke the deadlock in the 50th minute when Glody Lilepo's effort rattled the crossbar.

The Citizens responded with a well-worked attacking move in the 60th minute, with Fortune Makaringe receiving a clever pass from Soukouna. However, Bvuma was once again up to the task, making a brilliant save to deny the visitors.

Both coaches made several substitutions in an effort to snatch a late winner, but neither side could find the breakthrough, and the match ended in a goalless stalemate.

With points shared, Chiefs will have to improve their finishing if they are to climb the table, while Cape Town City will also feel they could have done better in front of goal.
