Morena Ramoreboli's COSAFA Cup feedback to Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos

Now that his stint as Bafana Bafana coach at the COSAFA Cup has ended, Morena Ramoreboli briefly shared what will be in his report to national team mentor Hugo Broos in the coming days.

South Africa finished third at the regional tournament.

Ramoreboli says some of the players selected have a future with Bafana going forward under Broos.

“Honestly speaking we had a good mix here. Young players who are still gonna be part of the team in the future and those that are in a level that we say they are in a cycle where they need to compete regularly with the rest of the guys in Bafana,” Ramoreboli said.

“There has to be a very good handover to say Mthethwa [Sibongiseni] can help us with 1,2,3, 4, Letsoalo [Victor] and all of the other guys.”

Bafana had a blend of youth and experience at the COSAFA Cup in Durban, but it’s no secret some of them are fringe players at club level.

Ramoreboli believes there’s room for some of the younger players too.

“My wish is to see some of them getting the opportunity to embrace coach Hugo and again, some of them I would really like to see them playing especially your Puso [Dithejane], Gumede [Siyabonga], Palace [Genino]. They are still young, they need to get an opportunity, especially on the under 23’s,” he added.

Although it was difficult putting the team together with PSL clubs reluctant to release players, Ramoreboli adds the idea was always to look ahead instead of just adding numbers for the tournament.

“So, those are some of the things that I think already when we were sitting down doing this team, we were thinking of the under 23s, we were thinking of Bafana at the same time,” the coach explained.

“So, I believe that there are those that will get an opportunity and there are those who will be developed for the future like your Puso at his age he’s been able to get a call-up and he’s got a cap, so that’s very good for us.”
