The Dube Birds had initially charged the entire squad with misconduct after the club was forced to call off two DStv Premiership matches against Mamelodi Sundowns and Golden Arrows last month.
According to the South African Football Players’ Union [SAFPU], this was due to payment of their December salaries being delayed.
The Premier Soccer League [PSL] have since fined Swallows R1-million, of which R600 000 was suspended, and awarded Sundowns as well as Arrows three points each, while the panel warned the Soweto outfit of expulsion should this embarrassing scenario ever be repeated.
In their own way of addressing what management labelled an “illegal strike”, Swallows have started firing those found guilty.
SABC Sport can now confirm that another group of players, including Andile Jali, Keegan Allan, Gregory Damons, Keenan Phillips, Junaid Sait, Dumisani Zuma and Vusi Sibiya, are still not out of the woods yet.
The Dube Birds, the public broadcaster has established, first dealt with the employers who were being represented by SAFPU and the case appears to have been attended to rather promptly by the club’s attorneys.
Next up are those who have different representation and will now present their submissions before a final outcome in the coming days.
Swallows are in a race against time.
The PSL topflight resumes on February 13 when the AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire has been concluded and with the transfer window currently open, the club can issue clearances and attempt to register new faces.
The Dube Birds travel to Cape Town City for that midweek fixture and are expected to have a brand-new squad.
All will be revealed when the sanctions are carried out for the squad who still have to face the music for the “illegal strike”.
