Nabi’s high praise for Du Preez and Ox as Amakhosi return to winning ways

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi has highlighted the good performances of Ashley du Preez, Sibongiseni Mthethwa, and Pule Mmodi, who got their rare starts this season and helped the team to beat Richards Bay FC 2-1 last night.

Amakhosi returned to winning ways in a Betway Premiership match played at the Peter Mokaba stadium in Polokwane.

Goals from Wandile Duba and Du Preez ensured that Chiefs jumped up to the sixth spot on the log. Nabi was happy with the three players and hopes that they will continue to improve.

''Very happy with the players that started today, especially Ashley - he leaves here with more confidence going forward. Ox, unbelievable performance, Mmodi he did his job very well and we believe that they can do better,'' said Nabi.

Chiefs wasted numerous goal-scoring opportunities in the first half and could have easily killed off this game before halftime, and things could have gotten worse in the second half, as they were one man down. Nabi was left to rue some of the missed chances.

''It's true that we would have killed the game, when you don't kill the game your opponents - you keep them alive. You saw what happened at the end - we were a little bit under pressure, but it is true that it could have been lack of concentration on those very clear opportunities and maybe a lot of over confidence as well. But today we feel we need to congratulate our players because the most difficult thing in football is to create opportunities. We now need to figure out to kill it when you have the opportunity,'' added Nabi.

Amakhosi finished the game with only 10-men after Reeve Frosler was sent off at the beginning of the second half for a second bookable offense.

But Nabi has questioned the decision that led to the card being issued by referee Cedric Muvhali.

''About the referees, you will judge for yourself, that on the foul there was not even a foul. The player slipped himself and after it was red card, the whole stadium saw that. We won't judge, judge by yourself,'' he expressed.

It doesn’t rain, but it pours for Richards Bay FC head coach Brandon Truter, who has now seen his team lose three matches in a row in all competitions and is skating on thin ice.

The KwaZulu-Natal-based club has been winless in their last seven league matches, which reads seven losses and two draws. Truter says the only solution is to strengthen the squad.

Last night, Bay played a total of 48 minutes in the second half, including the six minutes of added time against 10-men, but they still conceded the second goal and only managed to get Yanela Mbuthuma’s consolation goal. Truter didn’t spare his players for the lackluster performance.
