Nasreddine Nabi delights in Kaizer Chiefs’ capture of Glody Lilepo

Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi is delighted to have ended a long pursuit of winger Glody Lilepo, who he’s courted since his days at AS Vita in DR Congo.

The 27-year-old joined Chiefs on a two-and-a-half-year deal from French side Valenciennes earlier this week, alongside Tashreeq Morris and Thabo Cele.

Nabi says he had tried to bring the DRC international on board during his time with Young Africans in Tanzania as well as AS FAR in Morocco, but he is relieved to have finally landed his sought-after target.

"It's true that I've been following Glody Lilepo since the time he was at AS Vita Club before even going to Al Hilal, and at that time at Young Africans we even tried to bring him in, but it didn't work out," said Nabi, as translated by assistant coach Cedric Kaze.

"Last season, I tried to bring him in at AS FAR Rabat and it didn't work, but this time it worked out – we faced tough competition for him with Tunisian clubs, but we are so happy he joined us.

"We believe that with his experience and skills, he's someone that can help us a lot, especially in the attacking third, but we might as well give him a little bit of time to adapt to SA football and his teammates, but I think he's going to be a very good signing for us."

Cele joined Chiefs on a three-and-a-half-year deal from Russian club Fakel Voronezh, and Nabi believes the 28-year-old will also be a perfect fit.

"About Thabo Cele, he's someone we have been following and I can tell you that he's the kind of player that fits into our game model," the coach added.

"He came to training and looked fit during sessions, and we are very happy about him."
