Nigeria's Moses Simon set for spell on the sidelines after ankle surgery

Moses Simon is set for a spell on the sidelines after his club Nantes confirmed the Nigeria international will undergo ankle surgery.

The forward missed the last two months of the 2023-24 season after sustaining a fractured fibula and he has been suffering the after-effects of the injury this campaign.

Nantes head coach Antoine Kombouare was quoted as saying by Ouest-France: "Moses had the plate and screws removed from his ankle because he had been in a lot of pain recently.

"We are taking advantage of this period, with the short break coming up, to have him undergo this operation.

"It will give him two weeks before he can calmly resume with the group. It was really a necessary operation for him."

The French league is currently on a winter break and the Canaries will be only in action again on 4 January when they travel to Lille.
