One eye on Caf clash, but Mamelodi Sundowns eager to beat Golden Arrows

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena feels they’ve been handed a tricky draw against CR Belouizdad in the Caf Champions League quarterfinals.

The Brazilians will face the Algerian outfit over two legs later this month, but Mokwena wants to first see his side return to winning ways in the PSL tonight.

Downs host Golden Arrows in the DStv Premiership on the back of two successive draws and turning that around is the immediate focus.

"We've gone too long now without winning so we have to win against Golden Arrows, that's the immediate focus. But a very good team in Belouizdad, it's going to be complicated with very complex traveling to Algeria. They're a good side with a way of play that is not too far from Sundowns," Mokwena said.

Sundowns clinched the league title two weekends ago with seven games to spare, so there’s the notion that they’ve looked a bit lethargic since.

Mokwena says the challenge is to keep improving.

"We put ourselves in this position, so it's only fair that we take ourselves all the way through and that's the talk we had. So, we have to try to fight for every game and fight to win every match and give our best. Everyone is analysing, checking because we are champions," he concluded.

His Arrows counterpart Vusumuzi Vilakazi is also looking for consistency as the KZN side fights for the Top 8.

"It's going to be a different ball game for obvious reasons. We need the consistency in making sure that we don't lose the game," Vilakazi said.

Arrows beat crosstown rivals Richards Bay at the weekend – their surprise inclusion of striker Ryan Moon paying off with the winning goal.

But Vilakazi suggests the approach could change against the champions.

"We have to look at the strengths and weaknesses of Sundowns and try to capitalise. So, if the system fits, we will use it but if not, we will try to use something that fits so we can be victorious. So, we are not too sure as yet, we are still going to try and see Sundowns' strong points," Vilakazi concluded.
