Orlando Pirates and Lesedi Kapinga part ways

Orlando Pirates have confirmed the early termination of Lesedi Kapinga's contract following a mutual agreement.

The decision came after a meeting between the club and the player earlier today (Tuesday).

In a statement, Orlando Pirates expressed their gratitude, saying, "On behalf of the extended Orlando Pirates family, we would like to thank Lesedi for his time at the Club and we wish him all the best for the future."

Kapinga, who joined the Buccaneers in July 2023, had hoped for a fresh start after limited opportunities at Mamelodi Sundowns.

However, his tenure at Pirates was less impactful than anticipated. With strong competition from midfielders like Patrick Maswanganyi, Karim Kimvuidi, and Kabelo Dlamini, Kapinga, 29, struggled to secure regular first-team action.

He made just two starts and 11 substitute appearances across all competitions, which prompted both him and the club to seek an early exit before the transfer window closes on September 20.

Kapinga's career at Mamelodi Sundowns was similarly subdued, with only nine starts in 39 appearances over three seasons. Despite contributing four goals and seven assists, he remained on the fringes of a star-studded squad.

His most successful period came at Black Leopards, where he featured in 51 matches and scored seven goals, adding eight assists.

Interest in Kapinga from clubs such as SuperSport United, AmaZulu FC and Sekhukhune United has been noted, suggesting that his career may soon take a new direction.
