Evidence Makgopa grabbed the opener in the first-half before an own goal by the unlucky Sipho Sibiya after the interval sealed maximum points for the Buccaneers.
Makgopa came into the contest in good form and the striker gave the hosts lead in the 39th minute he latched onto Vincent Pule's pass and beat goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi.
The goal was just reward for Pirates who had dominated the early stages but could not break down a stubborn Swallows defence.
The match continued in the same pattern after the interval with the Buccaneers struggling to put the game to bed with the second goal.
Pirates coach Jose Riveiro looked to his bench for some intervention and summoned Monnapule Saleng with 20 minutes remaining.
The winger made an immediate impact when, with his first touch, he took the ball to the byline and his cross deflected off the unfortunate Sibiya for the second goal.
The hosts then comfortably saw out the contest to register their fifth victory in 12 league games while it was a fourth defeat of the campaign for Swallows, who sit once place below their Soweto rivals on the table.
