Orlando Pirates, Kaizer Chiefs handed tricky Nedbank Cup quarter-finals

Soweto giants Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs have been dealt tough fixtures in the Nedbank Cup quarter-finals, with both sides facing away trips.

The Buccaneers, who are aiming to go one step further in defending their crown for a record third time in a row, were drawn against SuperSport United.

This will be the third meeting between the two sides this season, with Pirates having won both matches in the MTN 8 and Betway Premiership, and striker Tshegofatso Mabasa says they are eager to go all the way and make history.

"Yes, a difficult draw for us, but we knew there is no easy team in the last-eight, it's a cup competition and I think whoever wants it more on the day will be the team to go through," said Mabasa.

"We've played them twice already this season and we've managed to beat them twice, but we know this one's going to be a completely different ball game.

"And I think the boys will be ready, as well as the coaches – we'll prepare well and hard for this game, and hopefully go all the way in the Nedbank Cup to defend our title again."

Kaizer Chiefs, who appear to have turned the corner, were also handed a tricky last-eight draw away to a Stellenbosch FC side that they have already beaten twice in recent weeks.

Right-back Dillon Solomons says Amakhosi have been able to nullify their strengths in past meetings, especially in transitions.

"It's a tricky draw, but a very good game of football awaiting the fans. For us, it's just to stay true to our processes and obviously focus on what we need to do, and hopefully we can come out of Cape Town with the win," said Solomons.

"For me, I feel that we nullified their strengths [in the previous two meetings], they want to play on transitions, and if you counter-press them, it's very difficult for them to do that.

"So, for us, that's going to be our main thing – to stop their transitions, and obviously they have very speedy players, but if we can stop that then we can nullify a bit of their strengths."
