Pau Cubarsi commits future to Barcelona until 2029

Pau Cubarsi, the young Barcelona defender, has officially extended his contract with the club until the end of the 2028-2029 season.

The announcement came after Cubarsi visited the Camp Nou offices on Thursday afternoon, following a morning training session which concluded a three-day break for the team.

Cubarsi, who celebrated his 18th birthday on January 22, initially signed a contract extension in May last year when he was still underage. That agreement was set to keep him at Barcelona until 2027, but provisions were included to automatically extend it to 2029 upon reaching adulthood, which has now been formalized.

Accompanied by family and agents, Cubarsi was joined by Barcelona president Joan Laporta, vice president Rafa Yuste, and sporting director Deco for the signing.

Since breaking into the first team in January of last year, Cubarsi has quickly established himself as a first-choice defender.

His performances have been so impressive that he has already earned call-ups to the Spanish national team. Additionally, he was part of the Spanish squad that won the gold medal at the Olympics in Paris.

To date, Pau Cubarsi has accumulated 71 appearances for Barcelona. This season alone, he has featured in 36 matches across all competitions, following up from 35 appearances in the previous campaign.

His rapid progression and commitment to the club are a testament to Barcelona's youth academy system, continuing to produce talents that not only play for the first team but also represent their country at the highest levels.
