Alvarez has been strongly linked with a move to Atleti and Guardiola was asked about the 24-year-old after City's 4-2 win over Chelsea at Ohio Stadium.
"No news. I don't have anything to say. He will come back," Guardiola said.
Alvarez, who has a contract with City until 2028, has been competing for Argentina at the Paris Olympics. He indicated before Argentina's elimination by France that he would make any future decisions post-Games.
Guardiola added: "I count on him, but he said in the news that decisions will be made all together. Now he has to rest and when he feels ready to come back he will come back.
"I'm sure when he comes back I'll hug and congratulate him for the Copa America, for the Olympics and we will start to work together. This is the reality.
"What happens in the meantime, I have a thousand million things to think about the team.
"Next week we play for the first trophy of the season [the Community Shield against Manchester United at Wembley]. Two weeks we play at Stamford Bridge again, that's my only concern.
Guardiola added, "I trust him, but as he said, decisions will be made together. For now, he needs to rest, and when he's ready to return, he will. I look forward to welcoming him back, celebrating his success in the Copa America and the Olympics, and working with him again. In the meantime, I have many things to focus on with the team."
City's immediate priorities include the Community Shield match against Manchester United at Wembley next week and a Premier League fixture against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in two weeks.
Guardiola also noted that the team completed their US tour without major injuries. Rico Lewis was substituted against Chelsea due to cramp, while goalkeeper Ederson was rested because of minor "niggles." Both players are expected to be available for the Community Shield.
