Players’ Union set to mediate Pule Mmodi’s dispute with former agent

The Footballers’ Union of South Africa [FUSA] are set to take on the role of mediator in the dispute between Kaizer Chiefs winger Pule Mmodi and his former agent Solomon Seobe.

Seobe has accused the player of signing for Amakhosi earlier this month without his knowledge and using another intermediary to facilitate his free transfer to the Glamour Boys when his Golden Arrows contract expired.

As soon as Seobe got wind of the news Mmodi would be unveiled as a Chiefs player the attorney confirmed he’d be taking legal action.

But SABC Sport has now established FUSA will step in to try get the two parties to reach a settlement instead of dragging the saga.

“I had a management agreement with Pule Mmodi until 2 July, and his Chiefs contract would have come into effect a day earlier. Yes, it’s one day, but legally I was still meant to represent him in any discussions,” Seobe explained.

The agent had been vocal even last year about attempts to secure a move for the Bafana Bafana international away from Arrows, but the KwaZulu-Natal outfit opted against selling him at the time.

Chiefs and AmaZulu were the two interested parties, however could not seem to get Arrows to lower their asking price.

But at the end of June, Mmodi was free to join a club of his choice – and Seobe’s gripe is that he has been robbed of his procurement fee as an agent.

“He went to Chiefs with another agent, but Pule claims this person was only there to accompany him because he represented himself. I do not believe that to be true. I think it is important to teach these players a valuable lesson to honour any agreements entered into,” Seobe said.

He affirmed that FUSA would step in.

“I spoke to the president of the union Salter Motloung. They have offered to get the official contract so that we deal with facts and not hearsay. I am open to a settlement, but failing which I am still going to take legal action from Pule Mmodi. My fee will come out of his pocket.”

Contacted for comment, the player insisted he put pen to paper at Naturena after the management agreement had lapsed.

“I signed after our contract ended. But I am waiting [for Seobe’s legal action],” Mmodi told the public broadcaster.
